Regarding Batteries

Featured Replies

Hi,

A good tip if you need a new battery for 2.0l turbo diesels.

Just got a new battery for my Scout, Varta Silver E44, cost £69.50 inc delivery from Performance Batteries, next day delivery !!! Fantastic price and a 5 year guarantee !!!

Original battery (6.5 years old) 70AH  /  540CCA

New battery   77AH  /  780CCA  and boy, does it turn over !

A week ago, wouldn't start, everything dimmed ! after 20 min spin on motorway.  Charging OK, suspected earth connection, removed, cleaned, OK ?

Before disconnecting a battery, I always connect a small 12V sealed lead acid battery via the cigarette lighter socket, to maintain power to radio or anything else !

No problems since, but decided to get new battery just in case it had a fault (wrong time of year for failing batteries !) and it was getting on a bit.

Had a couple of effects after battery voltage dropped - power steering light came on (steering wheel symbol) and traction control / ESP warning light(skidding car symbol) came on. Power steering light went out after a few yards, ESP reset after ignition switched off and next start. Phew !!

New battery was slightly higher than original, but battery box lid fitted OK. Will do some load tests on old battery to see if it is faulty.

Now to swap (refurbished) Proteus alloys for my Vredstein winter wheels, remembering that speedo will be out by 10% ?

Regards,

Lloyd Jones

Well done for making the old battery last over 6 years, and thanks for the recommendations on the new battery, always useful.
