Retentioning cambelt on MK2 Fabia 1.4 TDi

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I recently had a look at the top half of the cambelt by removing the cover. I am planning to change it as car has done 60k and is an 57 plate. I noticed that the marker on the tensioning pulley was about 1cm to the left of the tensioning mark. It is the same set up as on a VW Golf mk4 but they suggest checking and adjusting the tension of the belt as it settles in and stretches a bit whereas Skoda only mention changing at 60k or 6 years I think. The reason I ask is that a mechanic friend of mine said he had a couple of these in where the belt had jumped a tooth presumably due to a slack belt. Any thoughts on this.

Is the VW / Skoda recommendation for your engine not at 48 months  (4 years) now changed to 5 years?

(some advice used to show something crazy like 100,000 miles or 48 months)

It is the original belt so I better get a move on and change it, thanks for the recommended change intervals, I wasn't too sure about these.
