In-car Camera - eBay Deal of the Day - £14.99

Featured Replies

Seen this one around for a while, no idea on how good it is. For £14.99 delivered though worth a try. Not a style I tend to go for as it looks kind of intrusive for the amount of space it would take up on it's mount.

Doesn't look amazing but you get the idea, certainly not of any use if capturing registrations is important going by all the videos of it in use.

£30-£35 odd delivered on ebay for the G1W which is one of the better bottom end of price band for good quality 1080P

Thanks Fubar great little video of the G1W

Sent from my Galaxy S5

I had one of the even cheaper ones from china £11.99 ok but kept falling off windscreen when change in temp. Sometimes did not work at all , you get what you pay for, got this now, MUCH better quality and crystal clear images http://www.halfords.com/sat-nav-audio/in-car-cameras-parking-sensors/in-car-cameras/nextbase-incarcam-202-lite

That's the one I got as I had £50 of Halfords vouchers to spend.

Pretty pleased with it. Night video is a little dark but generally it's good.

If you point it a bit further down it focuses better on the cars

Assuming I find a way to hard wire it through the interior light, down the A-pillar and into the fuse box on the end of the dash, how easy is it to then connect it to a power source?

I assume I just cut off the 12V cigar socket connector and replace it with a 'piggyback-type holder' for one of the fuses!?

Piggy back fuse, there's an earth point to use there in the form of a bolt and I used one of these:

Can get from maplin or ebay.

Give me a shout if you want a hand.

If you're talking about the one you linked to, then the specs read that it's a 5v DC unit. Cutting off the connector and putting it straight to a 12v supply will be interesting for a few seconds, then you can buy another one.  :D

Sat Nav doesn't work when in car camera is switched on.

Found out this evening why my portable Garmin Nuvi 310 wouldn't lock on to the satellites.

I set the sat nav to display the signal strengths of the sats, and the signals were very low and wouldn't lock on, so I switched off the in car camera, and within 10 seconds, the sat signal strength increased a hundred fold and quickly locked on.

I then switched on the in car camera and the sat signals dropped virtually to zero. Ah Ha... I thought...

Thus there is interference from the in car camera, which might also affect other systems in the car, so be aware of this, should anything else malfunction.

I still have to experiment to see if I can reduce the interference, which might include a different power supply, or moving the camera away from the sat nav. The camera was to the left of the rear view mirror, and the sat nav clipped onto the air vents in the middle of the upper dash, so approx 0.5 metres below the camera.

I had a similar situation with a different camera in another car, when using the same sat nav.

But in the Picasso, which had a metalised windscreen, we had an external aerial for the sat Nav, mounted on the roof towards the rear, and we had no problem with reception when using the in car camera.

So conclusion so far, is looking like the in car camera is emitting rfi in the frequency range or a multiple of the frequency range as the sat nav. Which is quite worrying!!

I would guess that the in car camera does not comply with the CE regulations for such devices.

So may be you do get what you pay for.

Either that...or it could be the sat nav that might be susceptable to interference from different cameras.

To be fair I haven't tried it with other Sat Navs.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Hope it helps,

Richard

I had one of them. Picture quality was very good but the power supply interfered with the radio very badly. Had to go back.

Anyone got one?

Yeah, I bought one to stick in the Del Sol.  Here's what you get for the money:

Both clips are straight as it came out of the box, with the exception of me changing it to the 'alleged' 1080P (which I'm doubtful it has) - and working out how to set the date in between!

Suction mount is quite good.  There's no HDMI socket (other online reviews show one).  The USB lead doesn't work with my MBP or Dell laptop, but the files transfer okay with a card reader.  Sound quality leaves something to be desired.  It's straight forward enough to use.

You can see in the night time clip that I stop to let a bus swing out.  Looks too close for comfort in the clip, but it wasn't in real life (It looks like the camera's about a foot in front of my bumper rather than in the windscreen).  Reading the instructions I thought it was zoom/focussing related, but the instructions aren't clear about the 'key' to press re focussing - and I now don't believe it actually has this facility.  It doesn't have night time IR, just two white LED's, which have about 6' useful range.

I'm quite tempted to send it back.

EDIT:  DVR returned, refund given.  I know they're cheapest of the cheap, but from experience I'd suggest steering clear of these ones.
