Handbrake problem on a Skoda Fabia - gets stuck W reg 1.4

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Not  sure if l have put this topic in, on this forum.

Over several weeks, l have had problems using my handbrake. When l lift it up, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.  Had my mechanic check it out, and he has said 'bang' the handle to make it work.  It operates, but then it wont.

Is there anyway that l can repair this myself.  Is there a YouTube item that l can look at. To save money l could do it myself.

My mechanic has said that he has placed 'grease' on the wire.  If he has to change the cable, it will cost a few quid.  At the moment it is working, then it will stop.  I have to out car in gear, with the wheel at an angle.

Cheers

Fabia topic on this one. It's possibly the brakes locking up. The two halves of the rear drum brakes are joined by a rivet, which tends to seize. MY 04 did it after a few years on the original shoes.Yours could ( I'd suspect ) be on second set.First you will have to find which side is locking up.Once you've found the side - check the amount of shoe left . It might be better to replace the shoes with new ,than try to free the problem rivet on the lower edge of the shoe.
