Aircon compressor

Featured Replies

My aircon compressor /clutch is failing, could I remove the clutch pully or complete compressor and just run a shorter belt.

If not,  anybody know where I can get a  rebuilt or oem replacement, I don't want a secondhand unit from a breakers.

The units I've found on the net for around £250 seem to be clutchless yet claim to fit?

Ideas please.

P.S is it easy to remove the compressor, does it come out without removng the radiator?

The compressor is the power part. The condenser is the radiator

My compressor packed up years ago - I just asked Dave at DSB Autocare to fit a shorter belt, missing out the A/C pulley, and Job done!

Not really missed the aircon - we don't have that many really hot days.

The compressors on octavias  are clutchless,  They run constantly and when not needed they are just turning but not compressing. As above if not wanted/needed fit a shorter belt.

Mine is an L&K with climatronic, are you sure it's clutchless? either way I might try a shorter belt,Does anybody know a shorter belt size or I suppose I'll have to run string around the shorter route to determine the shorter belt size.

BTW it's a six V belt.

drefaldwyn, Did you remove either the compressor or compressor pulley, or did the shorter belt route miss the compressor pulley.

Compressor left in-situ - shorter belt misses the pulley.
