Looking at getting my PD105 remapped, but wanted to see a before/after comparision on a dyno readout first to see what gains are where if you know what I mean. Does anyone here have a print-out they can upload to save Ben & co trawling through thousands of dyno charts to find the right one?

I did the wife's altea pd105 and it made a big difference to how it drove. Especially with the 5 speed box. You didn't have to keep dropping it down to 4th. The fuel economy went up quite. A it too. I am guessing due to the fact you weren't always ringing its nuts off at 105bhp. Somewhere around 140bhp would be sensible. But it's the torque and how the car drives that matters.

Its usually full throttle to target speed, but changed up by 3k rpm. Did you have a dyno readout at all as a shark retailer? Main thing i need is the relative PD105 power and torque figures all moved down the rev range about 500rpm. get more economy at 80 and 90mph than i do at 70, just isnt the power/torque there to carry the thing along. Also, I assume they are "3d" maps rather than just remapped on WOT?

I believe they are proper 3d maps yes.

 

It won't necessarily shift all the power down the band. You will have an increase across the whole rev range including power power after 3k rpm right up to the red line.

 

I've never driven a manual PD105 so no idea what the gearing is like in terms of revs at 70,80 or 90 mph. The engine will be able to chuck out more power at these speeds and so it will be easier to maintain these speeds but you won't necessarily save fuel as it will still require the same power to move the car at any given speed.

 

Maintaining 60mph requires the same hp whether your engine can produce 100 or 1000 bhp!

Its mainly just to help with the extra weight I carry. And as for the needing the same hp for x speed. thats true, but if i can make that bhp on half throttle rather than full it'll save some fuel ;)

Looks a nice map slotty, peak torque looks around 1700rpm? hard to tell on that graph!

No not really... gearing will be the same so the revs will stay the same.

 

Full throttle or half throttle you're still using the same hp and the same amount of fuel being injected to produce that same hp.

The peak torque is around 2590rpm... :thumbup:

I have a Shark remapped 105.  It is so much better.  I can now overtake!

At commuting and touring speeds, I get better fuel consumption.

It can have both a positive and negative impact on fuel economy.

 

If you drive with a light foot then you are likely to see an improvement in fuel economy for the simple reason that you will get more power/torque lower down the rev band so no need to accelerate as hard or for as long to get up to speed. There is probably negligible difference at a constant speed but again where you may see an improvement is say needing to maintain speed up a hill- this can be achieved far easier etc so you will likely use less fuel.

 

Obviously if you drive around making use of all the extra power all the time then you will see a decreased in fuel economy - simple physics - more power = more fuel needed.

Thanks Phil. Trying to decide if a remap on my green line Superb is worth it. I wouldn't mind a bit more power but would like to see improvements on the consumption too.

Pretty sure you would see a few MPG overall. Plus the extra power when needed can be handy!

Phil's right, you need a given amount of power to reach any particular speed to over come the various dargs and resistances. With a Diesel if you can back off the pedal and deliver less fuel yet still produce the required amount of power then road speed is maintained but you will use less fuel.  Remember, Diesels don't have throttles, power is dependant solely on the fuel delivery, air is unrestricted ish.

As mentioned, these are 3d maps so the extra power is not just from more fuel, but injection timing and boost being optimised too.

 

Yup, using all the performance will tend to compromise fuel economy.

It should improve the mpg as you wont have to hold the gears as long at higher revs when accelerating.
