Just been wondering.. Do I need to use the handbrake when parking up if I have put the dsg into P? Also what is it the holds the car still when you do this? As it seems to clunk into what ever it is that holds the car? Am I making sense?

you are locking the gearbox, much like leaving a manual car in gear, you will rest the weight of the car on the gearbox if you dont use the handbrake, so yes , put the handbrake on when using park ;)

Lol didn't mean to upset anyone! Keep calm and think skoda!

lol.. brilliant ;) vote for me! :p

but zach, at lights ect if its just a short wait, just hold the brake on (firmly) in drive..... if it a long wait, apply the handbrake and select neutral :) I would only use "park" for parking ;)

and enjoy your car DSG is an awesome bit of kit :)

Feeling smiley tonight shark?

It's basically this:

This  is called the parking pawl that locks the output shaft of the gearbox. So you don't actually rest the weight of the car on the gears etc.

Still advisable to use the handbrake.
