Radio upgrade

Featured Replies

Whats the best way of upgrading the head unit on my VRS? I want aux or bluetooth or both really, but I want a neat install.

Also, what about the speakers? What are my options?

Unless the speakers are knackered or you're going to blitz the lot at once, just get the h/u first.

Single DIN, get the Skoda fascia trim to fill the space above it. Do a search of the ICE and Fabia 1 forums for removing the original h/u. Look for instructions for VW cars in the new h/u instructions.

New h/u only... Get one with a big onboard amp and a decent EQ. Go mechless if you want for probably more space left behind it. AUX-in and iPod integration and bluetooth can be good features to have. Oh, get a small or sctive sub... You want a PRE-out on the h/u for that. Also need an aerial amp if you want the radio to work.

I have this one http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-ide-178bt

I chose the non cd player as I don't use cd's but they also do the same with a cd player. High spec, high quality if it's within your budget.

As for speakers ideally you want 6.5" components but you'll need to buy or make some mdf speaker adapters. Go for the best you can afford with a mounting depth no greater than 63mm or you'll have trouble fitting them.

Something like these maybe. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/hertz-energy-eskf-165-5-slimline

Once you've decided what speakers you want you'll then want to look into sound deadening, just the front doors will do but if you want to take it one step further I would recomend doing the boot and under the rear seats. ( it will help reduce road noise massively )
