Braking problem

Featured Replies

Hi folks, firstly, a happy Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year to you all. Now to my problem, on very rare occasions  when I apply the bakes the pedal is absolutely solid , no travel whatsoever, pump the pedal a few times and eventually I have brakes and can stop, but this is such a rare thing that a garage could have the car for weeks without it occurring . i have a feeling that it could be a leak on the servo vacuum pipe but then again i am not exactly a mechanic nor am I able to check myself (as I am disabled) so I thought I would ask the wealth of knowledge out there that is the  Briskoda members and see what ideas you may be able to come up with before I have to pay a fortune to a garage to solve/not solve the problem..

thanks, Ian

petrol mate

2001 vrs 74k from new, recent new discs and pads all round and rear n/s calliper (2nd in 4 yrs)(binding)

The only thing that would make the pedal go hard would be a loss of vacuum to the servo, or a fault with the servo itself.

Does it only do it when its wet outside?

Thanks for that mate, at least when I take it to a garage I have a damn good idea what it is and won't get jerked about by them. I really appreciate the advice..

Mine had a habit of doing that last year, about once a month. It would stop, but you had to press the pedal very hard, so I assumed the servo was on the way out. It settled down and hasn't done it in over 12 months.

thanks for getting in touch Russell, it's all pointing to the servo or vacuum pipe

cheers Ian
