Have just parted with my 55 plate Octavia dsg 2.0 for a 61 plate cr change from tp. I noticed that nearly all Octavias up to 2012 were 1400 klg but looking at a 14 spec its raised to 1600 klg, how did they do that?.

longer wheelbase = less overhang perhaps

All depends on the weight of the car and what engine it is equipped with. A heavier car with a more powerful engine can of course pull more than a light car or one with a smaller engine.

My 2012 / 61 plate estate 4x4 has a towing limit of 1,600kg, the 2014 model is 2,000kg and about 50kg lighter!
