So, 

 

I bought a VRS just over a week ago, and the hour long test drive didn't show up the rattles and squeaks and I failed to spot the missing thread from the steering wheel; which I have now fixed.

I've also ordered a gear trim as it was worn, but the rattles are infuriating

 

The first squeak comes from the passenger side air vent. It's got silicone spray behind the edges and vaseline, but nothing is working. Does anyone know if this bit should just pull out (it looks like it should)?

I know if I can get it out and smother it in vaseline, I'm convinced it will stop the squeaking. 

 

The second rattle, which is more of a knocking, comes from the top of the hatch. Just to the right of the high level brake light. Looks like it's coming from behind the trim, so I'll have to take the boot trim off. I can't find a how to, I just know it starts with removing the screw from behind the dog toy boot closer. 

 

Still, the wheel was a success.

Looks like it should pop out relatively easily. 

Found it.

For anyone getting squeaking from the dash air vent, this bit at the top needs unclipping and a lubricant adding to the part where the two plastic faces meet.

Anyone know how to stop this knocking though would be my new hero!

Inspired.... Just popped the rubber tube off. The plastic retainer slides out and the tube can be filled with bear filling.

Another day, another fix, this one has definitely made a difference though.

It wasn't the air vent at all (and the top two slats are busted now) need a new one. Vaseline along the straight edge has pretty much silenced the noise though. Weird how pushing the air vent stopped it though.

Hopefully this will help someone else in the future?
