Vrs running cooler after removing......

Featured Replies

It all started when wash the car at work last saturday. When I looked underneath it and the undertray was hanging off and snapped at one side.

So got home and removed it and never thought anything about it.

Just been to bakewell over the peak district giving the car the beans with it being a good dry clear day. I was watching the temp on the dash and it never went over 94c then when cruising back in traffic went down to 90c. The heater was on high but not blowing. I know these engines suffer from bloody heat soak. I will watch it for the next few weeks.

What was the Ambient temperature when you were getting these temps.?

Cruising in traffic and 90*oC indicated is about right with good oil in the car.

At ambient temps bellow 10*oC, it can be lower.

Heat soak really is hardly going to be an issue in cooler weather even booting it on UK roads.

the temp outside was about 8oC and with standard Skoda oil in it from the service.

If it was 8*oC then your car was hardly running cool, that is its efficient running temperatures,

the car will be lapping it up.

Have you had issues with Heat Soak and noticed a loss of power ever with your car on hot summer days?

ive had the car at 100oC plus in the summer. sometimes it feels faster and slower on different days in the summer but I read that before about the vrs.

Lots of us have them 100*oC plus, and a fair bit plus and no heat soak obvious while moving.

Park up after, and sun on the bonnet and go again, then you might find some issues.

Hardly a problem on the road.

Lots is written online about performance that hardly is an issue when not on the track.

A twin charged small cubic capacity engine will be very susceptible to changes in atmospheric pressure and air temperature

VW did pretty good with the system they fitted as standard with cooling fans and oil cooler & pump.

They even run pretty well in temperatures like those in Australia.

Fitting NGK 7's seemed to have made my car run cooler. Running around town the oil temp stays below 90.

In Australia my car normally will sits at about 100oC driving around once it is fully warmed up. On the track it hits 125oC. After a few laps it comes back into the pits and I keep the car running until it drops back down to 100oC. On hot days I will lift the bonnet in the pits as well to help it cool back down. Track days for me can range from 15oC (in the rain) to 35oC+ (in summer). Normally I don't notice any powerloss.

I would like to see how hot they run in South Africa after a good thrashing.

Positively tropical.

Im in Buxton, just over the hill, and its been 4 degrees most the day.
