Skoda Stereo Upgrade Help

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First post here so hello!

I've been trying for a good while to figure out what speakers to get for my 03 Octavia but am struggling to find all the info i need before buying and can;t find all the answers on the forums / google / local always in a rush speaker fitter

Bodge posted on here a while ago the dimensions of the Mark I Octavia speaker sizes:

Front - 168mm (6.61inches)

Rear - 130mm (5.11 inches)

Tweeters - 36mm

I want some component speakers and thought I'd decided on the Pioneer TS-A172Ci for the front and TS-A132Ci for the rear, but can't seem to find any details on whether they'd need some adaptors to make them fit properly (or where to get the bits), or if they'd fit at all if the Octavia is shallow fitting up front. Same for any adaptors for the tweeters as the pioneer tweeters are 20mm as opposed to Skoda's factory 36mms.

Would also like to get a sub in the boot as well - though not sure if I'd need an amplifier to run this? (got a 4x50W pioneer head). Any semi-budget recommendations on this would be great as well, doesn't have to be amazing - any upgrade on these knackered factory speakers is gonna amazing either way.

Cheers in advance for any help with any of this,

Adam

The doors of the MK1 Octavia are very shallow, so not all speakers fit even If they are the correct size. Some have custom made spacers out of MDF to get the extra depth but I am not sure how much you can get before the door card becomes a problem.

Also do not cut the foam cup behind the speakers unless you like a wet interior and/or the speaker cones getting a soaking.

Cheers,

Yeah I don't really want to do any modifications / cutting etc,

Any idea of the maximum depth for the front speakers to do a simple straight swap out?

I got Mac Audio from eBay for mine and they fit fine. There was someone selling a set of fronts on here a few days ago have a look in the classifieds I think it was "a few vRS Octavia bits for sale" dsmithmobile is the name on it.

the max mounting depth on front doors is 56 mm...I have a pair of Magnat on front doors with 56mm mounting depth and is on the limit.

6.5 fronts

5.35 rears

At worse u may have to cut the foam and let it dit into the door, if u do then cut it in such a way u can make a umbrella out of it so to speak mate

Replacing the tweet is a easy trick of a soldering iron

Run it on the oem fixing snd it melts down

A ting of butyl around new tweeter will hold in place , allowing also sound to move forward

Then tack it in place with a glue gun

Time n care bud

6.5 - the only real issue u'll run into is a snall lug of metal

This can be tapped back or removed and touched up

It sometimes gets in the way of the seat of the speaker thats all

Wine has kicked in

Brain has stalled

****.... Sorry mate

If u get stuck im easy to find

Happy new years

I certain I have the TS-A17 Pioneers in the front of mine (fitted them nearly 11 years ago hence I'n not certain), I do remember I had to trim some of the metal in the door a tad.

I'll dig out the box later and confirm, oh and the tweeters in the kit fitted into the standard front door mounts.
