I've made a V0.1 of a phone caddy for my Nexus 4. Hope to install the bracket around the centre air vents "Brodit" style. Question is: What is the simplest way to run power and earth to the USB buck? It'll probably live somewhere down in front (of the car) from the ashtray. Can then have a simple USB-micro-USB cable running down the side of the dash/centre pod.

ATM I am thinking of connecting into the cigarette lighter circuit as it's relatively stand alone and I won't have to prise out the radio etc.

Have just purchased an "add a circuit" dooby off eBay. Seems the most rational way to get my 12V.

OK, so my add-a-circuit fuse piggyback arrived and.... All of the fuses I've tested in the fusebox seem to have permanent 12V.

Is there a fuse that only gets power when the ignition is switched on?

Alternative is I add a switch in-line....

I'm in the same boat. Need an ignition only live from the fuse box but they're live.

Don't want to put a switch in

Can power be taken from the power supply going to the stereo?

Rear heated window is switched live I believe. Check the fuse diagram in pinned section

Rear wiper.

That's what I use. Only comes on with ignition.

D'oh, that's a mini-fuse. Need a different piggyback and fuse for that one. Will give it a go.... Possibly it'll be lower profile too as the current piggyback is definitely touching the fusebox cover.

Used this first thing this morning.... Worked a treat :) even better because I don't have a resr wiper :)

I succumbed to the switch option. mainly because I can't be arsed to wait the 2-3 days for another eBay delivery then pull the lower dash off again.
