1.8t acceleration problems

Featured Replies

hi im new to the forum.

I picked up a decent vrs few months back while my vr6 is being restored.Everythings been fine apart from recently ive been experiencing an odd on/off hesitation on acceleration, the car seems to have the same torque and 'go' but sometimes its as if the boost is going rapidly on and off like im pumping the accelerator. This only happens under a heavy right boot if im smooth and progressive with the throttle it doesnt happen, its even worse under heavy load like going up a big hill the car noticeably pulls back then flys then pulls back again every half second or so.

Im looking for some advice on what areas to give attention to first.any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

i should note car is 100% stock and ive had no warnings or fault codes read

thanks

Welcome to the forum.

I take it you have checked the spark plugs & air filter, and done some servicing and maintenance on it.

Maybe there is a mis-fire but not logging a code because not enough in any cycle.

Are you running it on decent fuel and maybe not just Supermarket stuff?

thanks.

not really went to far with the diagnostics.havent checked or changed and ignition parts so far air filter seems clean enough.and ive put in new oil and filter 3weeks ago. ive heard various things about turbo intake collapsing, and also a faulty n75 but nothing concrete.just wondered if there was a common problem area i should investigate first

Hi mate, try giving the throttle body a good clean, could also be the brake light switch that I've read linked to lots of similar symptoms.

Could be clutch?

DOES BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CAUSE ISSUE EVEN IF NO FAULT CODE SHOWING?????? AND BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING ????????

MINE HAS NEW CLUTCH AND N75 AS WELL AS ALL BREATHERS

Don't know if brake light switch throws a code, brake lights can still work when it's faulty, just lag behind when you press the pedal and other strange anomalies, I'm sure you can clean the contacts on the switch by scraping off any crud and giving it a good spray with contact cleaner for a temporary fix

this is interesting as my car was showing a brake light code before.there was no prob with the actual lights functioning and the pedal switch seemed ok.the code just disapeared after clearing but has came up a couple times since and disapeared again after clearing. Does this fault have any connection to acceleration issues?

Yes according to other posts on here, especially going over any bumps on the road, the car knocks the power back thinking the brake has been applied.

This is what I've read on here so hopefully someone will come along and confirm this, hope this helps mate

yeah cheers. think il investigate the brake thing further as ive had the fault code in the past a few times. in the mean time i will give the tb a good clean see what that does

New switch and tv clean at weekend

Could be MAF

Before you fit the switch, have a good look round in here at other threads, as I'm almost certain you must not operate the switch before you fit it as it is a one shot fit job. If you move it before you fit it it is done for the day.

thats handy to know so it would be no use using a part from a scrappers or a 2nd hand jobby. i seem to remember something i had to do on the vr6 switch like pulling the plunger all the way out to its 'ready' position and then let the pedal set it itself when fitted
