Fabia vRS 2010 - please help-->engine light

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a skoda fabia II vRs 1.4 TSI 180 hp 2010.

I`ve bought it 9 months ago (second hand), and the first day I had many problems. I didn`t come to my house because after 20km from the dealer the engine light came out, EPC and the safe mode was on so i had to tow my car back. Yes the first day I didn`t came home.

the problem where the start plugs, so sad the dealer. Okey, changed all 4 of them, and the car run good til december.

The warranty is away, so now I have to pay for every problem, and problems are right now starting.

problem before 3 weeks: I`m crusing in the city and gave it some gas, so that the gear box chanded just from 5. gear to the 4., but then I`ve given kick down, and the gear box had problems, or changing or it didn`t know in which gear to put it. suden the car had maybe 2 sec laag, but then it accelerated normal. But from the engine bay it smelled like burning clutch by the non automatic gearbox, wheen your starting from a steep hill and you burn the clutch. So I`ve stoped and the smelling was realy bad, but everything seemed okej wheen Iooking the engine.

Okej, I`ve droven normalny home and the car was 14 day in the garage, not in use. Then I`ve droven maybe 50km and the car was again 1 week in the garage - everything okey and normal.

todaj I`ve droven a little bit and give it maybe 4x kick down. I spoted that the check engine light was blinking, but after a few seconds that was away. By the next hard acceleration was it again blinking and between gear changing it had some laag.

The video (watch after kick down 1:18):

Please, can anyone tell me, what can be wrong, the starplugs are just 10 000 km inside so they are almost new? but when the car is standing with the engine on, the sound is like misfiring, it is not runing so smoth, this is what i noticed, but maybe its because of the new milltek catback and I`m not used to the sound. Or I don`t know any more what to do.

But still,

I have just problems with this car. First engine was blown away, so the car became after one year new one, the engine is still drinking oil like an idiot, gear box problems from time to time, and now again the blinking engine light.

In the 9 months I didn`t test properly the performance of the car, because I have fear, that the car is going to fall apart! realy! This is such a disappointment, a sportscar that cannot take 4 kickdowns!

Greatings from slowenia

Hi Patrik

I don't know what is wrong with the car but I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Being a 2010 model, from what I have read the early ones are prone to the problems of oil consumption and misfires. Thinking about it logically, if you are using (burning) oil and have a misfire then it sounds like worn/cracked piston ringlands and loss of compression. Worn rings allow oil past and into the combustion chamber. This uses oil and can also contaminate spark plugs.

Contaminated spark plugs can cause a misfire and loss of cylinder compression (due to worn rings) can also cause misfire and also pinging.

It sounds like a job for a main dealer as the engine sounds like it is in a bad way. If this is confirmed by a main dealer and the car has already had a new engine they you stull may be covered.

Patrik George will be here soon to help you as hes the man to speak with , you have a problem as it is drinking oil but this needs to be measured and needs skoda help not just the dealer

Thanks guys. tomorow i will call to skoda, beacause I have this month the regular oil change service. And I will tell them about my problems.

Just for notice, the oil drinking I saw in august, in september was the car still 1 week in the warranty, and the skoda dealer sad to me, that they must make a test. They change the oil, you must make 1000km and come back, then they measure it and if it its too much they call skoda. but because I was only 1 week away from loosing the warranty they didnt make nothing because of this, they sad I`m too late. 3 weeks later I called again and they asume that the problems of drinking oil are with some hoses, I don`t know which. They made me a offer, I must pay 200€, and 200€ will pay the skoda dealer. for some f*ucking hoses they will 200€, they can lick my ass. I sad to them, they can keep the ****ing hoses, because for 200€ I can buy many oil, because they sad maybe can it help to change the hoses but they are not 100%. f*uck this, keep the damn hoses for 400€.

Today I have read the german forums and just problems with this cars, many people have 3. motor by the milage I have. This is not normal!!! What ****y motors are they puting in the cars! and the car is now allmost 5 years on the roads, and they putt still the same ****y motors inside. I don`t get it.

By the sounds of it the misfire issue is usually linked to spark plugs or coil packs you need to check the correct plugs were fitted and gapped correctly and then for the price of it put 4 new coil packs on genuine OEM ones not off ebay or get the fault codes read to indicate which cylinder/s are at fault as your warrenty has expired I would do this asap to avoid a big engine bill.

Welcome to the forum.

It is good that you reported the issue before the Warranty Expired.

I take it this was some Extended Warranty, or one you get with a Used Car.

The Garage that did work already or carried out the servicing also have to take responsibility.

Do not mess about yourself with anything or try out anything.

Study the Warranty & the Small print, and be sure of your rights in your country.

All the issues with your engine are known to Skoda CZ & Volkswagen.

They really need to deal with them.

They are listed here, and Skoda & VW have now experience of the faults on hundreds of Engines built from 2009-2012

all around the EU & in other World Regions.

PS

Re your DSG (DQ200 7 Speed Twin dry clutch)

There was a World Wide Recall in 2013 which did not include the EU,

in the UK there was a 'Service Campaign' which started in May 2014.

No idea about in your country, Recall or Service Campaign,

But check with Skoda CZ what actions are being taken to check the Mechatronic Control Unit,

& to change the Synthetic Oil for Mineral OIl and do a ECU update for the DSG.

this is what they did in New Zealand.  A Proper Service Campaign where Owners were contacted.

Hello,

The car was bought by a skoda/audi/vw dealer.

this was the original Skoda waranty. 2 years normal and than buyed one for another 2 years, everything from skoda dealer/skoda.

The recall on the DSG I have made, june 2014. The oil was changed and new software by the Skoda dealer

I cant find the engine nummber, just this:

the engine was changed in july/august 2011

in 2011 where still the CAV engines?

Edited by PatrikA3

Yes, 2011 will be a CAVE.

Really sorry to hear of your problems and hope there is a satisfactory resolution.

Good then, if the car is under warranty at the time of the reported issues, then you should be dealt with correctly.

& if the car has a proper service history to the Schedule / Guidelines.

Important there is no Remap on the ECU other than the one it should have had done by Skoda since it is a 2010 CAVE Engine.

Lovely car.

Hopefully a new engine paid for by the Warranty Underwriter or Skoda will have you sorted out.

and the flashing engine light in the vid is exhaust emmisions, so almost certainly misfires.....

ok, the computer says this:

imag12051.jpg

Which is what you will get with a failing spark plug, or coil, or at the worst valves.

You need the Spark Plugs examined closely,

because if a Spark Plug is getting Oiled & then Cooked, it can be failing.

On the replacement CAVE engine,

they were just a like for like replacement until after 2012 when the CTHE engine was introduced,

then Replacement CAVE engines might or might not be Refurbished engines with some upgraded parts fitted.

& the ECU should have an Update, and the Breather Pipe / Valve should be the latest version.

Skoda know they replaced the Engine, or the Warranty did,

now Skoda might have to do it again,

with a better engine.
