New Octy III vRS Hatch owner from Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi Octy III bunch.

Tonight I just picked up my new to me, (ex demonstrator) Octavia vRS petrol DSG hatch in white. I've only done about 25 miles so far but......... it's a cracking car so far.

I did consider and test drive a VW Golf GTi and a Seat Leon but the Octy got the deal for performance, equipment, rear and boot space along with, well I like the somewhat inconspicuous looks but with performance. Oh and my previous dealings with Skoda have been very good.

Options that were included were satnav, black pack and sunset glass. I love the DSG.

I just thought I'd say Hi. My previous car was a brilliant Yet TDi 170 Elegance that was a fantastic car however with a change in my circumstances the black pump is no longer an option combined with an urge to get something a tad 'cooking'. Anyway it's too dark to take any pics right now so I may post a couple in a day or two.

Since you have come from a Yeti are you selling your flat cap and slippers, Oh and you'll need to shave off the beard

Enjoy the Vrs

Hello...congrats. You've done pretty much exactly the switch I made - even the same yeti model- but my petrol VRS is manual estate. Much as the yeti was great I'm delighted with the vrs after a year's ownership....more space and a pleasure to drive...hope you enjoy it too

Oddly I didn't have a beard when I got the Yeti but I do now but but it is only a goatee, not the slippers though

I've just picked up a petrol vrs dsg this week in exchange for a yeti too. My yeti was only the 110 diesel though.

Really enjoying the octavia so far but not had chance for a good run yet.

Update:

180 mile round trip today to see my father up in the Midlands.

I thought I'd take it easy in normal mode as the roads were wet and I need to get used to the cars DSG gearbox behaviour.... Well that didn't last too long. This car/engine/gearbox in bonkers. I love it! I think the hardest part was getting used to sitting closer to the ground after driving the Yeti. I didn't feel the need to go into full manual mode at all on the A429 Fosse Way between Chippenham and Warwick at all although I'm sure that I would have made more... errm.. progress if I had. I did override the gears on the paddles at times though.

Overtaking the recently exhumed 50 shades of beige on the A429 was a complete breeze, fast, stable and safe. I'm sure that if I'd popped it into sport or manual I would have made quicker progress but I wanted to work out the overtaking distances, safely first.More fun next time.

In a nut shell, this car is bonkers, I love it.

Oddities so far, well I've not sussed the satnav Amundsen for postcode entry yet (if it has one) but it worked perfectly for the destination address. Oh and the music from SD card playing shuffle worked great until it played a Sophie B Hawkins track and decided to play the whole album... which was nice.

EDIT: And I didn't get my beard stuck in the door once  :D

I've made a similar switch (but at the budget end of the market) from a Greenline Yeti to Oct3 2.0 TDI SE.

I had a Racechip box on the Yeti which made it very pokey – so not unlike my previous Fabia VRS's. The amazing thing was how cheap motoring it was – 2 years and 20K miles and lost only £2.7K in depreciation. A great discount on the Octy but still could cost me double!

I would go for another Yeti (I only need a small car) but they are stuck with the old tech engines at present – the 2.0 TDI lump in the Octavia is brilliant – is it the extra weight that makes the VRS version only marginally quicker?

Now that engine in a new Fabia......

It must be catching. Swapped my 12 plate tdi Yeti for a race blue Octavia Vrs estate this week. What a glorious machine
