Is this to much for insurance

Featured Replies

£210 f/c....a 50yr old, 10yrs nc's, respectable Glasgow post code....05 Octavia mk2 1.9tdi.....I thought it should be lower...or am I dreaming

I would have thought a little lower too. You are not dreaming!

Go to Saga, Cleo.

Depends on the excess and your driving history. Some firms will have a bottom line they will get down to and may be at or near that with the current one, try somewhere else. Worth checking what category your postcode is to see how reputable it is! Sure I've seen someone post a link to a site on here somewhere.

Go to Saga, Cleo.

Don't start me on them!

I got a quote form them £152 then lost the net connection, when I got back on (about an hr later) I went to click to pay but "timed out" so redid the quote and it didnt come back up neither did they....and the cheapest then was castle or Hastings at £200. I then went straight to saga's site and put my ref in then got £245!!!

I'll phone them shortly (if open, if not then tomorrow) to ask what hell's going on

LV

Talk to SAGA,  take the Quote for Holiday Insurance, then on House & Contents insurance & get a Discount on each Quote,

you spend 1 hours time a can save a Days net pay, and then when you get an offer of a Price Match,

you are many quids in.

Lots of good features with SAGA like any driver covered if needing to drive in medical emergencies, cover abroad etc,

& very good claim handling, and No Phone menu now, just through to someone in the UK on a Free Phone number.

Re Respectable Glasgow Post Code,

is that a Low Risk Glasgow Post Code,?  they are not one and the same.

I spoke to them earlier....and was told they're sorry but that quote of £152 is wrong and happens a lot on the comparison sites that's why when I got to the end it wouldn't take payment.....so saga for me are out!

Looks like I might be going with Hastings

Has Hastings confirmed on the phone the actual final price,?

they are easy to deal with. But get the full story on the T&C's

Try Adrian Flux,

& the other Brokers on this forum in the Insurance Section.

& maybe on the Phone,

http://premiumchoice.co.uk

PS , If it is just about 'Much Cheapness',

then Middle of the night on Comparison Sites, and a 'Buy Now'  can sometimes find you a real cheapo.

They are trying to be in the Top Ten and get sales, and if your quote and all details are correct some will honour

the Price, even when they call you the next day to go through the Details.

eg

Hasting, Peoples Choice & others.

The quote does seem very high.  Does the "respectable" Glasgow area share the same front Postcode as areas notorious for the activities of "Neds"?

Presumably, you have got quotes from "confused.com", "go.compare.com" and "comparethemarket.com"?   If you haven't, do so because that will give you a good benchmark.

I suggesy you and your dad read the following article too:

Sometimes it's worth paying a little more than going for the cheapest quote. I spun on black ice and wrote off my car at approx 0630 on a Saturday morning. Problem was the the claimsline the cheapest quote insurance company I went with didn't open until 0900 (I didn't know this until I got the prerecorded message). I had to wait in minus temperatures until they opened. The only silver lining I had was the RTC didn't occur at 0200!

Bit steep. I'm 30 and £240 fc on Vrs with business use.

I'm in a G76 area.....I'd say it's decent, maybe not as posh as some 2-3 miles away ie Newton Mearns but good all the same

It's just me, not my dad

I know, I had thought about that, I know cheapest isn't allways best...but it's a bloody minefield out there and they're all out to screw you!

I thought so too, as said above its probably the best I'll get, I had business use and was only £15 extra, not bothering now though

I tried various firms when I last checked and Churchill were very reasonable. Approx £230 for 15k a year.... National farmers quoted £960ish! Well I had to laugh!

Have you tried Chris Knott through the forum? I'd be willing to be they'll be cheaper.

They were £250

A few miles can make a difference. According to this site below, you are in a highest risk area!

Too much IMO, my dad at the same age can nearly insure 2 cars for that.

Might be the post code that's pushing it up. Does seem odd, I was less than that for a VRS and I'm 37 with similar NCB

Might be but I can't get it any cheaper

Must be, there's nothing else, it's a busy area but decent and residential

You keep saying decent area.

Decent and respectable areas are often the highest claims areas and Parked on Drive is not always cheapest any more.

Check one of the websites and see where the Area stands for Risk ratings.

1 mile apart can make a difference.

Newton Mearns there with a G77.

Lovely, Decent People, and lots or Premium Models there, and lots of them that made their living ringing cars.

Insurance go on crime rate and claim rate % per post code.

I've been with AXA the last 3 years. No one can seem to beat their price.
