Transportation of bicycles

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I'm taking delivery of a 2008 skoda combi on Friday, I cycle regularly and need a way of transporting my bike around. The car has factory roof racks and I was wondering what the best/cheap setup would be to transport a bike, don't mind if it's ontop or on the boot.

Put down rear seats, raise tailgate, insert bike?

Try the 'the Roofbox Company.co.uk", they were the cheapest for my alloy aero bars and if you change car in the future, it's only £20 for a new set of car specific mounting brackets so you use the same roof bars.

You can get the rear mounted ones but why waste the standard fit roof bars, I'm looking at getting an estate next for carrying my bikes.

Generally full of other stuff and don't fancy getting the interior muddy tbh

Thanks, I'll have a look around the site, hopefully better value for money than halfords stuff

I paid £75 including postage for my aero bars and fixing kit. If I do change car then all I need to do is buy a new fixing kit for £20 which saves having to a whole new set.

I've got Mont Blanc alloy cycle carriers fitted to them and they go together well and are easy to fit.

Have a look at Thule. I have been using Thule SmartRack + Proride 591's for many years in different cars. Very solid and easy to use.

Problem with thule is no online pricing  :|

That's because they're quite expensive compared to other makes, it's the old adage, if you have to ask the price the you can't afford it !!

Mine are made by Cruz, they're a Spanish company and are in the mid price point but they were on offer when I bought them so we're pretty cheap.

Thule are meant to be the best so I suppose you get what you pay for but they are expensive compared to the other makes out there.

Haha I figured this much, will probably do a couple of weeks research before I decide on one to get best value for money, do these things normally go on sale periodically? Or were you just very lucky? :D
