Fabia Classic 1.4 door lock issue (it hasn't got central locking)

Featured Replies

Left key in lock on drivers side (open) door, door slammed -

Result: key hole moved a few mm's to the left, I can't unlock the door with the key (I can lock it though and key comes out with a little wiggling)

Can't find videos/threads showing how to sort this (it's just manual locking, not central locking)

I think i need to unscrew the side of the door or unscrew, screws nearest the door handle?

Please help?

Mine's a "classic" too, no central locking. The chap at the garage showed me how to remove the barrel, he just loosened the torx bolt in the top hole on the end of the door till the lock was released. Maybe someone here can tell us what the bottom one does.

Don't undo it altogether or it will fall down inside the door. You shouldnt have to remove the carrier (which is the big metal plate behind the plastic on the inside of the door). I did on mine and wished I hadn't.

A local locksmith was able to fix my lock for £10, though I had to order some bits from the local Skoda dealer and wait a few days for them.

Ah right, so presumably the bottom bolt on mine is already undone as the lock slides out when I just undo the top one. Useful picture, thanks for that.

wow!!

THANK YOU GUYS!

I shall have a go at doing this tomorrow when my mate lends me his torx screwdriver - much appreciated!

Anyone know if screw number 2 is essential, ie does it have to have a large head (like the one that fell inside the door) or can u get away with a "normal" machine screw? and what size thread is it? thanks

Well the head of the screw has to be the right size to fit into a groove in the locking collar in order to turn the collar. I don't know what size it is. Could you not fish it out of the bottom of your door? Or maybe get a used bracket off ebay complete with screw? I don't think the door handle will function correctly if the collar isn't in the right place.

Well it doesn't seem to have a difference to the door operation yet, can probably get a new screw in there by taking barrel out (don't fancy sealing all the doors up again!) n carefully reaching in, just changed all my door handles to colour coded and repaired all my locks - 47mm was size I needed (for the kit)

Didn't need to actually touch that 2nd screw, just undo top one fully (without removing it - magnetic bits are handy if ur fearful) - leave the cover on - pull barrel out - easy as that!

As for the handles "pulling themselves back in" yeah that didnt happen because you've got to clip the end of the handle into the mechanism to get the handles to sit flush

But the barrel shouldn't come out just by removing screw 1 because the collar locks the barrel in place. If the barrel comes out with only screw 1 loosened then the collar is not correctly set with screw 2. You're going to have to remove the door carrier to fix this properly. You will never get a new screw in through the barrel aperture.

Why won't I ever get a new screw in through the giant void where the complete barrel used to be? I can reach in where it used to be and touch it with my fingers... the barrel is only located and held in place with one screw - if you look at it u can see a hole where the screw locates and holds it in place

OK, so you think the barrel is only held by screw 1. What purpose do you think the rotating brass coloured collar has then? And if you think it does nothing why do you want to find a screw for it? Can you not see the tangs on the collar that turn and engage with slots in the barrel?

because you said i needed it.... i can see what your saying about it securing/locking it in place, i'll probably regret not putting it back in/locating it properly... watch this space
