Broke down in my company car on Friday.

Car is a '61' plate vw passat with 148k on the clock. Got towed back to garage who diagnosed fault as egr fault.

Cost of a new egr valve and egr cooler and labour £780.

Luckily I haven't got to pay but seems pretty steep. It's not at a vw dealer but a local garage who I always use.

Do u think it's Ott price wise?

Sounds about right. It's about 5 hours labour and the part is around 300 to 350 .

Pretty sure they change engine software when they replace the egr ...something the garage you have taken it too will not be able to do.
