MTDI setup

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

My felly pickup is running a 1.9td AHU lump with (apparently) a landrover 300tdi pump to create an MTDI, this was done by the previous owner so I dont really know much about the conversion. He told me it was using the original skoda pump bracket and the "nose gear" from an AFN engine. There is a boost gauge fitted, I see about 8psi boost tops. It feels slower than my big heavy Audi A4 with the same (but stock) AHU lump so I suspect its not set up properly.

Does anybody have a guide to setting up/timing these MTDI conversions? I've never really played with diesel engines, only standard maintenence / repairs etc. so I could do with an idiots guide.

I might have a tech manual for the bosch rotary pumps, ill see if I can dig it out, under the square cover on top of the pump head there is normally a adjustment screw for setting the full load fuel rate, it might just be set abit low, although I would advise against fiddling with any of the settings if you dont know what you are doing, also the static timing may have been set wrong if the drive gear has been messed around with, you need some quite expensive specialist tools to set the timing up on these so it might be worth visitng a diesel injection specialist rather than chancing it yourself.
