Brakes on the Superb are "mushy".

Featured Replies

First of all I don't know what to call my Suberb? It was made 8th of December 2014. And delivered 9th of January 2015. Is it a MY14 or MY15?

Anyway, to the real question.

I drove a 2013 1,4 Octavia combi today and it's brakes reminded me of my earlier cars, Megane 06 and Hyundai 13. They were sensitive. Little did it take to fully brake.

My Superb, I need to really push down the brake for it to start braking. Is this normal?

Thanks

I assume the mileage is rather low at the moment?

Wait for 5000 km or so.

1800km approx. So this is perfectly normal?

For this mileage - yes.

However brakes on Superb is not the sharpest in the segment - and this is mentioned by majority of reviews. But they are ok and I can confirm it after several near accident situations - brakes work ok :)

Want the tutorial or the codes for closing bootlid with remote or and button. Do you have this info? Maybe should start a new topic.

Same with mine brakes are not the best compared to other cars even the demo car was the same but the car does everything else well so I can over look that little detail

Yep, my brakes are still quite soft with limited bite [only done <600 miles so far]. The demonstrator I drove had decent stopping power, so I'm not overly concerned and would expect the brakes to bed in with time.

My Superb has the lightest brakes I've every had on a car to achieve decent retardation, but they respond to a decent shove if I need to stop in a hurry. I also drive a SEAT Ibiza and this car's brakes need a decent shove to get the same amount of deceleration as I get by a gentle press on the pedal of the Superb.

I would say the answer to the first part of your question is it is a MY2015 :)

They change the model years around week 23, mine was built early June 2014 and mine is a 2015 ...

You can tell from the VIN, i.e TMBDF73T6Fxxxxxx

The letter in red is the year...

A = 2010

B = 2011

C = 2012

D = 2013

E = 2014

F = 2015

G = 2016

H = 2017

Etc

I find the brakes on my 140 Elegance estate are very sharp. I had an Octavia for 9 years and find myself braking too hard in the Superb. Just needs a touch.

You'll need a few thousand on the clock for the brakes to optimise. Superb brakes are not the sharpest though.

I have a Superb CR170 from late October 2009. I suppose it is therefore a 2010 model year car.

I was very surprise to see comments about poor Superb brakes: "Superb brakes not the sharpest"; "not the best"; etc.  The 2009 car that I drove as a demonstrator had very sharp brakes with a slightly long travel. My own car has had very sharp brakes ever since it was delivered, with minimal mileage again with the slightly long travel, but I have never had reason to complain about my brakes. They pull me up sharply and efficiently when required.

The Autocar road test of a TDI 140 in July 2008 says, "...the brakes respond progressively, albeit with a springy sensation over a longer than expected pedal travel". and also, "While the braking performance did tail off after a few laps of our test track, it wasn't cause for concern; we were more worried about the awkward dead travel before the brakes initial bite."

I don't know if this is a placebo but now after 2300km the brakes works better/sharper[emoji4]

I have a feeling that the car tries to make everything more comfortable. The braking, the increase of speed, the cruise system. Everything is softer/smoother... Benefitting a more comfortable ride.

 It is normal. Many Superb users confirm that car finnaly settles after about 7000-9000 km.

I replaced the front discs and pads on my MY09 Superb at about 70k, they were all ok wear wise but felt poor, bought Pagid ones from ECP and they really made a difference , the brakes are really excellent with nice initial bite

Make sure you clean the grease off the new disks or your first junction will be very memorable
