Bulbs advice needed for 2006 Ambiente 1.6

Recommended Posts

Hi,

What kind of bulbs does the headlight take and how do I replace them?

Also for LED bulbs does this car require CANBUS error-free ones for it to work?

What kind of bulbs does the number plate take and how do I replace these?

All detailed in the owners manual.

Headlights are H7 (halogen), or D1S (xenon).

Number plate lights are C5W.

You'll need CANBUS friendly LED bulbs or they will trigger the on-dash blown bulb warning.

Can I just simply swap over H7 bulb for D1S xenon bulb without extra adaptations like xenon conversion kits to make it work?

What length are the C5W bulbs for this car?

No, you'll need the ignitors and ballasts to run the xenon bulbs, a quite complicated and expensive option.

If you want the benefits of xenon's but without the hassle an aftermarket HID kit is the way forward.

See this thread for more information...

The C5W Festoon specs you need are:

Product Dimensions (mm): H 38  x  W 11  x  D 11

Weight (kg): 0.02

Voltage: 12v

Watts: 5w

ECE Type: C5W

Cap Type: S8.5d

Ok so the length of the C5W bulb is 38mm right?

Yes, although it is always best to remove the old one to be 100% sure before ordering replacements.

The number plate lights are easy to access, 2x small Torx screws and you are in.

Yeah I checked out that link and it says on ebay that bulb length is 36mm. The dimensions you stated earlier in this thread is 38mm. Can you confirm whether its 36mm or 38mm?

It won't make any difference, the metal clips that hold the festoon bulbs are sprung loaded which means they can be flexed out to accommodate slightly different length bulbs.

It would be better to have a bulb slightly longer than one that is too short as the clips push on to the bulb from the outside.

As already mentioned, to be sure remove the existing bulb first and measure it.

Ok cheers,

Where is the sidelight bulb in the headlight assembly?
