New Octavia Owner - Help!

Featured Replies

Hi all! I'm new to the forum and I have bought a 54 plate Octavia 1.9tdi. It has 73000 miles and by the looks of it, it's had a bit of a rough ride by the previous fat owner! So far I'm enjoying the 1.9 engine but I have quite a large to-do list.

It's going in for two new front tyres on Friday.

The central locking appears broke, if you lock the door it takes a further 15 or so minutes of frantically turning the key in the lock for it to open. Does anyone have any ideas?

The drivers window doesn't work, the drivers seat is ripped and seriously flat due to the previous fat man. It also looks like he has been snacking on the drivers door card. Can anyone recommend any spares sites, to replace the tatty interior?

Outside the vehicle has also seen better days but I can't expect too much after only paying £1000!

Plan of action will be to sort the dodgy central locking, service+timing belt and hopefully a replacement seat/door card.

Any advice on the above would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

If you want some vRS half leather, join FB group "I own an octavia vRS". Guy on there is breaking a Mk1 vRS and has seats and interior.

Hi, they break octys here and on ebay fairly regularly as well. A3 or golf iv seats could also be an option?

What's happening with the door lock? Is the barrel spinning or is it stiff when trying to pop the pin up? Is it only drivers door that's the problem?

Drivers window could be the switch itself, try contact cleaner, again ebay for replacement. Would be unfortunate if it's the regulator or motor but it's possible. Try a different switch first, could be a cheap fix.

I often find breakeryard.com quite a useful service, could try that for a door card if there's no others around.

I have a full set of VRs seats in leeds if you are interested. Check out the for sale thread.

Try unlocking the doors using the key in the boot lock.

Thank you all for the useful posts!

Yellow - the lock is spinning but I have since noticed a fair bit of mould on the door card. I can also hear the window motor trying to move the window. I think it might have a good bit of water inside the door which might be causing these issues. Is that a common issue with the Skoka?

I was trying to get away from wet cars hence why I sold my ford!!

Unfortunately the internals of the door can suffer a bit with water ingress. Hearing the motor trying to work is a good thing, could be that the regulator has ceased. They're a lot cheaper than motors and not too bad to swap. Have to get into the door for a closer exam. I've not had one go myself but I'm sure there's someone round here who can help more! As for the barrel I think there are retaining screws that hold it in position, in the 2 smaller holes north east of the latch near the handle. Could have lost their integrity or may not even be there. Again, this hasn't happened to me but checking how it's all fitting with the mech would be a good place to start. Check out the door microswitch sticky in this section, shows removing barrel and mech. Think there is a you tube video under octavia door problems which I found useful.

While you're in the door have a good look round for other problems water may cause like the multiplug/module attached to the window motor.

Superb thank you, I'll let you know how I get on!

There's a large connector in the drivers door that's notorious for water ingress, which will cause all sorts of problems with central locking & windows. Check the connector for corroded & broken pins.
