a plea for a little help with a misaligned bumper MK1 hatch

Featured Replies

Hello people,

Im so sorry it would appear that questions are only asked when a problem arises, but here goes.

Ill post pictures when its light.

A little story, i needed a cheap car, we go to France to work six month a year on campsites, we are not well off but love the place and the only way to get there is to work. We bought a Fabia hatch SDi for a very good price but its had a slight bump and the front bumper is not loose but is slightly pushed to the drivers side and has a gap of about 15 mm on the joint to the bodywork. I know a local guy who does bodywork and he said a easy fix, take him a short time to sort, but trying to tie hime down to actually do the work is not working, "ill do it next week" etc etc.

I live in Suffolk, is there anyone who has half a idea who might be able to help? i don't mind getting my hands dirty, but can't afford silly prices to get it fixed. I'm sure it won't fall off, but its such a nice little car it deserves to be corrected.

Help!!

It's usually the clips that brake on them. Pretty sure you can get replacements or do a good old fashioned bodge with some zip ties.

I'd personally take it of, check all the clips and the mounts are straight (could be bent if it's had a bump) and then go from there.

Found a guide here for you... http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/251383-front-bumper-removal/

Yes, the clips on the wings is what usually breaks first in an accident.  The two mounting points under the bonnet grille (10mm bolts) are more solid.

You may be lucky enough for the bumper to simply clip back into place once you have removed it. Any broken clips will be evident once the bumber is removed.
