Occasional loss of power steering

Featured Replies

Hello all, ive got a mk1 Fabia VRS but i need a little help with my friends mk5 ibiza which is pratically same as a fabia underneath, he has occasional loss of power steering. He reckons its tempurature/moisture related as happens when its around 3 degrees or been raining, im not sure on his diagnosis.

Seat have suposidly scanned it and told him he needs a new pump fitting at about £1000 which he doesnt want to do straight away as its alot of money. Ive scanned it and got the following codes:

01288 - Terminal 30; Steering Assist: Signal too High

01290 - Reference Voltage Steering Assist: Short to Ground

So im going to look at the measuing blocks on mine although mines a fabia mk1 and then compare it to his, but i think its either steering angle sensor or a wiring issue. Anyone got any other ideas or what i should check?

Many thanks

My immediate thoughts (as usual) revolve around a slipping auxiliary drive belt or a faulty steering angle sensor. Or, as you suggest, a bad connector in this case.
