External Glass mount DAB Aerial

Featured Replies

Guys I have just bought one of these,

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_DEGA-1001_glass_mount_DAB_car_aerial.html

Was thinking of putting it on the rear hatch, two things.

1, it says not to mount on heated elements, and on the rear hatch it would almost be impossible not to go over one element,

2, I have tinted rear windows, ie film. Wil it be able to send a signal through?

Currently have a interior screen mounted aerial which isn't very good, so thought I would try the glass mounted as the next step, otherwise think it have to be a proper roof mounted one, which will be outside my ability.

Cheers,

1) probably to stop the glue etc or however it is bonded from going off, but it depends on how close it is to the heater lines.

2) Should be fine

The heater elements could introduce interference, or partially drain signal away. When the antenna is in the glass, its a separate element, and filters are often fitted in the heated rear window supply lines.

From a quick look, one of the heater wires would go across the Middle of the "pad"

Would it only interfere when the heated window is on?

Possibly, but more likely that the heating element would affect the aerial's ability to stay bonded to the screen when it heats up when on and so unpeel itself in time as Taylor put above.

Ok, bit of a rethink, possibly better to mount it at the top of the passenger side windscreen then.
