Skoda Octavia III Elegance - Camera and Radar capabilities?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I read a few threads on this subject and they seem a little outdated - on my opinion - but I might be just outright wrong... so .

Someone here has claimed that the cameras for Lane Assist and Intelligent Light Assistant are two completely different things.

Well how about today as the Elegance has been upgraded(?) This is what it says on Skoda website:

"Multi-function camera belongs to Octavia‘s numerous comfort functions, --- A monochromatic fixed focus multi-function camera is mounted on the windscreen in front of the rear mirror, and allows function of Lane Assistant, Intelligent Light Assistant and Traffic Sign Recognition."

Link: http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/new-octavia/assistants#ExtendableModuleWebPart_1_1_1

And this is what's said about the radar:

"The radar sensor in the front bumper monitors the area in front of the vehicle and continually evaluates the distance, direction and speed of all nearby objects (not only traffic). This radar provides data for two assistants in the Octavia: Front Assistant and Adaptive Cruise Assistant."

The Elegance model in Finland is equipped with both Front Assistant and Intelligent Light Assistant (Bi-Xenon) as standard and now I would like to know if it's possible to get the following options to work through software update:

- Lane Assist

- Traffic Sign Recognition (Amundsen+ opted)

- Adaptive Cruise Control (A new indicator switch should be installed though)

Is this possible or am I just expecting too much from my car?

According to my info it is like this:

- Lane Assist: you can upgrade it with Light Assist: vice versa it does not work, because Light Assist only uses different camera

- TSR can be upgraded on Lane Assist, but if you do not have Columbus, it shows error on startup

- Front Assist has different radar, so it cannot be upgraded to ACC

But, let someone else confirm this.

This is what I learned from this forum aswell, but the latest posts on that thread were from last summer if I remember correctly - and usually optional extras become standard as time goes by so... perhaps they have one single camera model that goes to every vehicle nowadays...? Don't know.

I tried to find some sort of part number or -code for those mirror cameras to see if they truly are different but couldn't find any / don't know where to look for... Can't understand that there is no spare part number in case someone needs a new windscreen and camera?

I remember people chatting here that satnav is enough for TSR (Amundsen or Columbus) - but again I'm not that informed on car tech in general not to mention VCDS so excuse my misunderstandings.

Just that the few phrases on Skoda website caught my eye: "This radar provides data for two assistants in the Octavia: Front Assistant and Adaptive Cruise Assistant." and "Multi-function camera"

Of course that information is purely commercial chit-chat, thus a non-car-tech-guy such as me is reading that word by word as a fact. Stupid me, eh? ;)

This is a camera for High Beam Assist in MY2015 car: 5G0 857 511 D

This is a camera for Lane Assist in MY2014 CAR: 5Q0 980 653 F

Completely different.

This is ACC in MY2014 car: 5Q0 959 435 A

Sadly, I didn't have a case of Octavia with only Front Assistant installed, but maybe this one from Citigo will help: 1S0 907 201 A

Again, completely different parts.

I stand corrected.

Interesting, this is a picture of camera for Lane Assist. So you are saying that this camera is now standard on Octavia with only Light Assist ordered from factory. Not also Lane Assist? Because if you order both, than your camera is fitted.

I will check tomorrow how exactly camera for only Ligh Assist looks like on MY2015 car.

Maybe it could be also market related. All above data are for cars from Slovenia.
