LED-bulbs for the license plate - I might have done something wrong

Featured Replies

Recently I ordered these LED-bulbs from eBay for the license plate:

A colleague of mine have the same car, and also fitted the same bulbs without any issues. So, I received the bulbs yesterday, installed them and tested them by turning lights on. After confirming they were working, I threw the old bulbs in the thrash and called it day.

Today when starting the car up, I got the symbol that one or more bulbs where not working. I got out, and saw that the LED-bulbs was not on. I turned off the ignition, and recycled the light switch a few times and they came back on. But when turning the ignition on, they failed. I tried to reinstall them and this seemed to the trick.

But driving home from work later today, they failed again, and I was not able to get them to work. Because it was dark, I went to the nearest car parts store and bought two regular bulbs which I installed. They seemed to be working and I continued on my way home. After about 30 min, I got that bulb symbol again, so I stopped and checked the bulbs; they were not working anymore. At the moment they only work with only the light switch on, if I turn on the ignition they will fail.

So, I might have done something wrong when installing the bulbs. Anyone here have any idea?

Mine is 2007, while his is a 2009. I ordered the ones you suggested, hopefully they work. Upon closer inspection I saw that the normal bulbs I bought today was 35 mm, not 36 mm. That might explain why they failed...

I did this job today as well. Everything is working fine with the new led bulbs however i notice the 2 screws that secures the bulb holder are short and when i screw them back on they screw at a angle which is awkward and the screws dont tighten that makes it less secure and feel like the bulb holder will drop out while driving.

Anyone can please advise on my situation. What length/thickness should the screws be?

Did not have the same problem, I do not have the dimensions of the screws though.

So I ordered a new set of bulbs which were supposed to work in my car. I received them today, and they worked for about 1 hour before going dark. Right now I'm out of ideas on how I'm gonna get this to work. I know people have been able to get this working, so might there be something wrong with my car causing them to fail?

BTW, these are the ones I ordered:
