When to check oil level

Featured Replies

This might seem a bit of a silly question but is there a "recognised" best time to check oil levels?

With all the cars that I have ever had I always checked the oil in the morning after the car had been left overnight or after several hours of being used so that the engine had fully cooled.

However, from my interpretation of the Skoda handbook, the way that it states "turn of engine" and allow to cool down means that I should run it first, let it cool down for about 10 mins then check.

When checking the oil in both of these ways I get a different reading, when leaving it all night it shows the oil level in the perforated area (b I think) but when I run the engine and let it cool down and then check, it is in the c area.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks

When the engine is cold......ie the morning as you are doing now.

When the oil light has come on like I do!!

Doesn't the Fabia have hot/cold markings so you can read it either when the engine is warm or when it is stone cold? Can't remember :rubchin:

Check oil....

Sadly I'm a victim of beliving the strength of modern engines...cold is best, but frequency...far from enough, but whenever I do it's fine...
