Moving up from a Citigo

Featured Replies

This is my first post in this section of the forum.

I've been a proud Citigo owner for a year now but a change in circumstances has me hankering for a new Fabia estate. I've not signed on the dotted line yet but had a test drive today and was mightily impressed.

I need to crunch some numbers but I can't see myself holding out much longer. :-)

I'm in the same boat, going tomorrow to have a look, see what figures are offered then test drive if they match up.

The figures seem to work out so I can see myself putting in an order very soon.

What engine/spec you going for and what kind of discount/price are they offering.

We were at the dealers yesterday and there is currently a 3 month wait for the new Fabia hatch, so if you want that estate you'd better order it now !!

Prog have you tried using carwow or similar? Most places are offering about £1000 off!

Placed an order for Fabia Hatch SEL (110 bhp) at the beginning of December and it arrived at the Dealers yesterday. Stipulated a few extras such as reversing sensors, hill hold etc and it worked out at just under 9 weeks.

Dealership more than happy to register as of 1st March.

Hope this helps as regards build completions.

£1000 is pretty lame. Give it a few months and there will be far more sizeable discounts.

Typical pricing.

Minimal discounts, to earn more out of people that must have the new shape car.  Even though it's a Skoda family car.

Once the order banks have levelled off, introduce an attractive price to keep the order bank healthy.

Exactly like the mk2 Fabia VRS.

Loads of people ran out and bought it at/near list price.  Later on it was VAT free which made a huge difference.

Rapid was sold a similar way too, lower spec and higher prices, then better discounts and more free spec.

If there is anything I've learned with Skoda UK, it's don't get caught up in the stampede for a new model.

Early buyers do seem to get a bit short changed.  I got burnt on the Rapid.

All that said though, if you are happy to pay £1,000 or so more than people will in a year to get the new model then it's completely up to the buyer.

That's basically what the salesman said to me yesterday, he doesn't have a lot to play with discount wise at the moment especially as the estate really isn't available until March, he told me to give it another 5-6 months when offers start filtering through.

I'll have more equity in mine by then too as he says while there's still some Blach Editions and 1.2 HTP SEs left they can't offer the best trade ins, if I wait until June when mine is 2 yrs old I'll be able to trade in without having to put down a deposit and get the TSI estate that I would like.

There's no discount as such but the dealer is buying me out of my current finance deal which is in my favour financially.

I don't actually know what the total price of the Fabia is without looking. The monthly payment is more important to me and I know I can manage that easily.

I'm kind of the same but I keep my car payment the same whenever I buy a new car so if I want it to stay the same without putting a deposit down then I'll just wait until May/June. It usually means a lot of bartering but 9 times out of 10 it works but if it doesn't then I just walk away, I'm not going to increase my budget if I can hold out for a few months.

I'd have liked to have kept my payments the same but that's not going to happen when changing from a Citigo to a Fabia estate. :)

I've just emailed my chosen spec to the dealer so they'll get it first thing in the morning. It's fairly similar to the spec used for the quote but I'd like a firm figure before committing.

My order went in today. I've gone for the following spec.

  • Fabia SE L 1.2 TSI 90PS Estate
  • Corrida Red paint
  • Heated front seats
  • Rear electric windows
  • Spare wheel
  • Variable boot floor

I look forward to getting my build week. Fingers crossed that it's soon as the Citigo took four months!

100% worth waiting imho. If you buy now you'll be borrowing much more than when the big discounts start coming later in the year, which will in turn make it much more likely you will be in negative equity should you wish to change again before the term is up.
