Distance between the number plate screw holes on the tailgate

Featured Replies

I will be putting my own plate on the Rabid in a couple of months time but was going to get a smaller, legal one made.

Does anyone have the measurements of the distance between the screwholes for the plate on the tailgate? My one is stuck on and I don't want to take it off

I know this doesn't help you immediately, but I will be replacing both my plates later this week (I want to remove the dealer plates as I don't want to be a rolling advert for a crap dealership). If you haven't found the answer by then, I'll post the measurements for the pre-set screw holes on both the tailgate and the front bumper (I believe there are 4 holes on the front)

Thanks Chris - that'll be a great help

I won't be changing plates for maybe a month or so but I'm the kind of person who searches absolutely everything on the web before deciding on something and want to find the best one for me. Plus I don't know whether to go for the short plate holders as well

Yes there are 4 circular sections on the front rather than the threaded inserts on the tailgate - I got the salesman to check when I bought the car. I'm assuming that they have something more substantial behind them to screw into than the rest of the bumper

I don't know the measurements but when I put my private plates on the holes to screw inot are just that holes.  Didn't seem anything more than the bumper plastic.  I dont remember seeing anything other than 2 holes on the front either.  I got the person making the plates ti use my onler plates as templates for the holes.

If you hover over the picture in this link you can see the 4 circles in between the sticky pads that were used to hold the number plate on. I'm assuming it's to accommodate the different sized plates used in different parts of the world

I have the measurements!

Rear - 27cm apart exactly (centre of screw hole to centre of screw hole)

Front - inner screw position - 27cm apart exactly (centre of sunken circle to centre of circle)

Front - outer screw position - 43cm apart exactly (centre of sunken circle to centre of circle)

Thanks Chris, much appreciated. Now to look at number plates and surrounds

Remember everyone - the rear plate mount is a proper pair of plastic threaded screw posts set into the boot lid (you are thankfully not screwing into bare metal). On the front the locations are marked with the small recessed circles, but you will need to use either self tapping screws or drill pilot holes - but you are screwing into plastic, not metal.

For road legal plastic plates, I recommend these (I've bought two pairs from them in the last month for me and my mum's car)

For road legal metal pressed plates, these are highly rated by people I trust

Avoid the Skoda themed plastic plate surrounds/holders on eBay - I bought a set, they were not good (and were designed more for metal plates rather than plastic ones). Very badly moulded plastic and flimsy.

The Briskoda plate surrounds are very good - just bought a pair - very good quality.
