Great.

But could you actually have found the same or better with the money you were being offered, and still have money left,

did you look ?

HI. yes i have been looking around and no i dont think i would have found another, plus its that gamble you take where i could have bought another one but it could of had all sort of problems and i Know the car i have now is all ok. Its funny that  it just clicked in my head just as i was on my way to sell up that it is a great little car and as said with the extras that  i have on it from factory i couldnt sell it lol.

I think diesels will be hit pretty hard in the coming years as the government begins to tighten its grip in order to meet EU legislation. Nitrogen oxides are now in focus and they are produced by Diesel.

I think they will fall out of favour as word gets around and the additional tax levies and RFL are increased.

The current utopia is small cc petrol engines with forced induction. Thats why F1 has been forced into the 1.6cc category to lead the way in development.

Stick with the MK2

I would suggest OP would be long out of his diesel VRS before that happens.

yep, have a 1.2TDi greenline fabia, and looking to change before pcp comes to end in December

have looked around and diesel prices are being pushed beyond viable levels for me, £2k premium for a diesel variant, looking at my cost per mile ( avg 10.6p / mile over 33,000) over wifes citigo (avg 11.3p / mile over 15,000 miles)

so 0.7p per mile difference between petrol and diesel, both 75PS engines

so to recover that you have got to do several 100 thousand miles to make up the difference

so unless you are determined to have a diesel I think it is now no longer viable on economic grounds, ad with the DPF etc you have got to be doing a regular weekly run to do a regen and clear the DPF and NOx catalysts for euro 6 regs

so after 27 years of being a diesel driver I an forced back to petrol due to basic economics, also current common rail engines due to the injection pressures are fussy about fuel, and won't tolerate more than 7% biodiesel

and is it me or are do they seem more affected by winter diesel than pre-commonrail diesels?

I'm thinking of getting rid too, couple of reasons. I *might* be forced into a company car soon, but even if that doesn't happen I'm tempted to just play the 50% payment get-out clause on the PCP deal and go for something dull but economical as I do quite a lot of business miles now. Also the Mk2 VRS seems to be suffering terrible depreciation so will be worth naff all at the end of the finance plan, especially as I've put more miles than I expected/declared on it, plus I wouldn't want the car out of warranty anyway with all the tech that can go wrong.

Great.

Selling a vRS that you know is perfectly fine and buying one you have actually no clue about just to win 500-1000 pounds is more than asking for trouble imho.

You are not winning only £1,500 if you can get the cheap deals out there.

If you have one running out of Warranty, you can find one that the Owner put 5 years on at Purchase.

There was no mention in post #1 about owning from new.

But yes, better the Devil you know,

well unless you like a Gamble and some cash in your pocket.

Yes you are right that's what I was thinking about when I was offered more money then what I paid it just didn't add up and i actually quite like the car now, at first wasn't sure but I can't pick any faults

A good vRS is a great car in many areas, that can't be easily replaced. If you didn't feel it was right selling it, then it probably wasn't.

No chance of me Selling my 13 plate vrs 16k miles and going strong. Also the prices might increase a Little as skoda will not be making a mk3 one

Nah i doubt it. The reason for not making a mk3 vrs is that demand was low and only the uk bought them really. For them to go up in value here they will need to have an enthusiast following an unfortunately the enthusiasts are well aware of the twin charger problems.

I have had no problems with mine .i had 4 diesel vrs before 2 of them had turbo problems i think its mostly down to look.I know a few members have had problems with oil consumtion again i have not experianced that problem mine used half litre in first 700 miles and i have now done 16k miles and have used about a litre..i do agree the damage to vrs reputation has been done as there will be no mk3 vrs i have been looking at buying the new 2015 polo gti :)
