Upgrading front door speakers

Featured Replies

Im looking for some seriously good front door speakers that will fit in the original fittings. The ice is currently standard and will upgrade the rest over time. I would prefer to buy all the ice of the same brand.

Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to not necessarily buy ICE all from the same brand. Some companies do speakers better than others...others do head units better. Some companies' head units sounds better with other companies' speakers than their own..

The above points about mix and match ICE is very valid. Although it's always tempting to buy from the same manufacturer for compatability and looks, it's true that one manufacturer doesn't make the best of everything. I had the Symphony system in my old Octy and was always disappointed with it. I swapped the front speakers with Infinity 652i after advice on here, but although they had more clarity and could handle more input they still weren't thrilling. I needed some bottom end but had an estate so the back speakers were a problem to replace - and that annoying tweeter in the back door right behind your ear doesn't help. The reviews often say that the radio is weak but I have the Symphony in my Superb and it's totally different, loads of ooomph although I could do with a graphic as it's a bit 'top and bottom' if you know what I mean. The only conclusion I can come to after all this waffle is that there is not enough air space in the Octy door so you can't get any bass moving. Maybe if you concentrate your clarity to the front and maybe get something as mad as a tube in the back. Even though I don't have an Octy now I would be interested to know if anybody can cure this problem. It always drove me mad.

I'd concur there is definitely something up with the speaker mounts in the Octy - like you say, the Symphony in the Superb (and also in the Fabia) sounds a lot better. Even with replacement speakers all round and an aftermarket head unit mine does still sound like there's a certain "presence" missing to the sound. Not sure if a separate bass unit would necessarily help this though... :rubchin:

However, it's still a pretty poor head unit - compared with the aftermarket headunits I've heard in Fabias, it is still pretty weak.

Keep the current speakers you have and fit some new rear ones for starters...then take it from there over time.

Yep, I tried to improve things by changing the front speakers for a pair of decent pioneer units, much more powerful but still no low end oomph, are the doors too thin maybe?

Anyways, the only thing you can do to remedy it is to fit a sub, I have a baby Kenwood sub behind the passenger seat and it makes a hell of a difference.

good fronts, and front tweeters. powerful rears with no tweeters.

think stereo soundstage from the front, power from the rear...

i presume you have an octavia from other peoples comments, but i just changed the front speakers on my felicia today.

infinty 5 1/4" coaxials went straight into the front doors.

the weather sheet needed slicing open to get the magnets in, but thats no biggie.
