Multiple issues

Featured Replies

Hi this is pretty long so apologies.

A while a go I noticed my Fabia was hiccuping when starting up. I would often have to wait 30 - 40 seconds or so before setting off as if i didn't the revs would stay around 15000 and the car would judder. This has been going on for maybe 6 months? any ideas?

Secondly - on my way to work this morning my engine management light came on. When i got back in the car for lunch it was still on however after leaving work the light ha gone off. Then after about 10 miles of driving (city) my oil pressure light starts flashing and beeping at me. I immediately stopped and have since tried a couple of times to get the car going and see whats going on. Ive checked coolant - it's not loosing any however it is brown as Radweld was put in a while ago to block a small lead. This means i cannot tell if any oil has gotten into the water.

When i lift the oil cap off the thread and underside is covered in a yellowy cream liquid thus leading me to believe water was entering the engine but i don't understand where/how as i've noticed no change in the coolant levels. The dipstick doesn't appear to be off colour however as the car has been running on and off all evening i'm struggling to get a decent reading off it. Oil checked maybe a week ago and level was fine - noticed no discolouration either.

Any information welcome. I know the long and short of this is to get it to a garage really but i;m just concerned about driving it at the mo.

Is it a diesel/vRS or petrol Fabia?

If you do a lot of short journeys then you can get a build up of cream under the oil cap, it's from the condensation mixing with the oil vapours. If not however it could be the early signs of HG failure.

When was the coolant an oil last changed? I'd personally put fresh in and run some of this through FORTE Gas Treatment (if it's a petrol) or FORTE Diesel Treatment (if it's a diesel/vRS)

You could also get VCDS lite and an interafce cable to code read the ECU to see if there are any faults, not all faults will bring up the check engine or other warning lights but could cause poor running.

If that doesn't cure the issues then more investigation will be required I'm afraid!
