TYRES ( VOTE)

Featured Replies

So im torn between two brands and make or tyre for my Octavia MK2 VRS, I don't want a sports compound tyre so no soft compounds here i want something that will out perform my car basically. I always go for the best tyre's on my motorbikes and that follows over to my cars whenever they need them.

I know there are loads of tyre threads but this is relevant to there prices now and the newer brands that are available :)

If you have any suggestions for other tyres i should put on please do mention them :D

THANKS in advance.

+1 for uniroyals

To be honest iv never had any dealings with them? any reason why you pick them?

They grip / feel good in the dry, feel good / grip enormously in the wet; plus they're usually cheaper than the premium brands. Michelin pilot sports are the only tyres that are significantly better at dry grip / feel IME, their wet performance is not as good as the Uniroyals. I've tried the vredestein Ultrac sessanta too that are popular, but I still think the Unis are a better all round UK tyre (given the number of wet days we have).

Michelin owns uniroyal iirc

If you consider the Uniroyals I'd go for them, had the RS2s on the Fabia, much the same opinion as Steve, for out climate they are perfect.

what sort of millage you looking at getting from them because the michelins promise 20% more mileage life.

RS3's are the best tyres I have ever bought!

These?

Yes!

Michelin PS3 all day long

I couldnt tell you tbh, it'd be a unfair comparison with the Fabia which was driven round like a knobcheese most of the time raping the torque everywhere. That said, I dont remember them wearing particularly quickly tbh.

+1 for the Goodyears lived up to the claims when I got them.

Got them again on the Honda and again very quiet.

TBH I think you're picking between some of the best liked tyres around

Got good taste haven't i ;)

About 12k on my remapped octy.

I have been running vredestein ultrac centos for the past year with a rainy track day too and they have hardly any wear :)

I have just picked up a set of rain sport 3s to go on my new wheels. £66 a tyre from camskill and fitting for £5 a tyre from a local place :)

Don't know if you can get them in the correct fitment for your car but Michelin Pilot Super Sport (PSS) are simply the most amazing tyre I have ever come across on a car. The grip is just phenomenal!

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric ...best tyres Ive ever had

Mk 3 Octy VRS diesel. OEM fit Conti sport contact 2 lasted about 11000 miles on the front and switched these to Michelin PS3. These then did 16000. Rears lasted the full 27000. Now replaced with Conti Sport Contact 5's. I was torn between these and the PS3's but the Conti's did come out on top in last years Evo tyre test.

I had Conti 5's ...Never again

High wear rate and noisy

this is what i like to see contrasting experiences, gives a good insight to what there like to live with !

road noise is a problem on the octy i haven't got any sound dampening in the boot so if its still bad when i make the swap that will be the next port of call.

If road noise is the problem then that would tend to suggest the Goodyears.

Remember the dB scale is logarythmic so 72dB is about twice as loud as 69dB

(Tried to find the math to work it out but TBH life is too short.)

Edited by Aspman

No it's not!

10dB is twice as loud (that's the log scale). 3dB requires twice the POWER to generate it.

EDIT - 10dB is perceived loudness. 6dB is a doubling of the SPL

I vote for RS3's although I've yet to try the others the cost of the RS3's put me off trying the others.

Dry grip is very good and obviously wet grip is very good too.

The RS2's I have on the back need replacing very soon and I will no doubt go for the RS3's again.
