2017 F1 - 1000bhp

Featured Replies

NIce - so ignoring the diesel the petrol F1 and WEC cars are both doing 6.5mpg give or take - and the Toyota is already givng 1000PS total. F1 cars are more draggy I think - even trimmed out for Monza.

I think the Toyota is a good bit higher than 1000bhp (around 1200bhp) but to get similar fuel economy from a bigger, heavier car that is designed to run 24 hours straight with no maintenance (even if that hasn't always worked in practice) is extremely impressive.

As for drag, I'd expect F1 cars to be better in this regard as their aerodynamics are clearly a lot more advanced, the Peugeot that hit 400kph is a bit irrelevant as not only is it pre-chicane but they specifically designed the car to take the top speed record, the car was never going to be able to compete in the race:

I agree with the post above that in 2014, the top speed was 211mph set by the number 8 Toyota, they're a long way off 400kph.  Although the car that set the record wasn't as advanced as the current ones, it was still reasonably slippery and it was developing plenty of power as well as a much longer distance to do it in.
