Question regarding engine replacement

Featured Replies

So I've recently had my engine changed and was notified by the technician that they believed my wheel was rubbing the arch however this was not visible at all. After using the car a little I seem to have an unreal amount of sound coming from what I believe to be the wheel bearing. So my question is - would they have removed this on replacing my engine? I'd imagine they'd have removed parts associated but would they have for any reason removed/loosened the bearings?

I'm taking the car back down tomorrow but I'm seriously worried the wheel could fall off. I've driven cars with iffy bearings before and I can safely say this sounds unreal.

Thanks!

Just take it back.

Unless you had your car seriously slammed (suspension lowered too much) there is no chance a wheel can be rubbing a wheel arch all other things OEM.

They do disconnect the running gear and it reads like they could have fekked sth up in the process...

Absolutely no modifications to the car so I found it hard to believe myself. The noise wasn't there upon picking it up, taking it back Asap. Trying to arrange for today hopefully!

Sounds like sth was incorrectly assembled or somebody forgot to lubricate sth or left some crap where it should have not bee left, like a bolt in a CV joint ;) - doesn't matter really and I would not be worried about it, just take it back and they have to sort it out apologising profusely for the inconvenience they caused you. I do not believe it is a coincidence that sth just "naturally" might have failed right after the engine was swapped!

Wheel bearing dont just break...they develop an increasingly loud grumble and/or droning.

A wheel scraping the arch sounds like utter nonsense too. As already said; something is amiss following the engine replacement.

It has got increasingly bad over a few miles but we're talking 50 miles, I honestly thought it wasn't gonna get me home. It's off back In tomorrow! The garage are quite concerned and quick to fit me in so I'm quite happy!

Call them back and tell them to be more concerned and get a Recovery Truck out and collect the car and drop off a courtesy car,

because if the Technician can not be sure what he did is Safe, then you should not drive it.

Or just call Skoda UK Customer Services if the Workshop that did the work are not playing the game,

They can get Skoda Assist out.

I'd have stopped there and then an called the Skoda Assist. I hope you are not thinking about driving to your dealer's tomorrow??

What do I do in terms of skoda assist? I've never had to contact them!

The engine replacement is covered by warranty, and the Dealership have been paid around £1,200 for doing it.

They should send out someone to drive it or have it collected by transporter, because they might just have made the car un-roadworthy

and unsafe.

Up to you if you drive it, but if the have messed up the Subframe or suspension or driveshaft you should not.

So talk to the Dealership Principal or Workshop Manager tomorrow and see what they intend doing,

the Service Reception were not that concerned it would seem.

Skoda Assist can have the vehicle looked at now & recovered if required to a Dealer,

but then you need Covered By Skoda Assist, and if your car is out of Manufacturers Warranty it Might not be.

So talk with the Dealer First, or if you have Skoda Assist just phone the Number.
