Temporary lay-up

Featured Replies

A friend finds himself in hospital - maybe for a week or two, maybe a month or more.  It's not possible for me to do more than keep an occasional eye on his car (a Touran 140 DSG) for the duration.   The car is in the open but fairly secure - no real worry on that score - but I'd welcome tips on anything that could reasonably be done to make sure it can be eased back into use with minimum fuss.

Borrow it for the odd day. :) will do it good

As Jason says, if your friend allows take it for a long (several hours) drive.

Other than that, the usual lock the clutch out, place on axle stands and leave handbrake off. DO not be tempted to "turn the engine over" unless you have permission to take it for runs that will get it full hot.

If it is only for a month or so then I would not be too worried about it.

It may need the battery charging up if it is in poor condition and discs cleaning when it is used again.

Two weeks in, I would give it a 8 to 10 mile drive, then should be fine for the owner when they come back, even if a month down the line.  Car's don't need to be used every single day. :)

Thanks for all your input.  Because of insurance implications I won't be able to take it out and axle-jacking might be a bit OTT - we just don't know yet.  I've just made sure than the mirrors are in and that the car's locked.  I'll keep an eye on it when I'm that way.

Thanks again

Now, if  I can find how to mark this as 'Answered'.....
