phone time

Featured Replies

Due an upgrade for my phone- currently have an HTC One S, which does the job ok.

Also have a Nexus 7 tablet, which is slowly dying and I use for the net and Kindle app while working away so wondering is a bigger phone would do the job of both?

Suggestion welcome! - any one got experience of Windows Phones?

not an  Apple fan so please don't go there!

Just got a Nexus 6 that hits the middle ground. If speed and memory are not super critical, the 4g version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 combines a phone functionality with a 7 inch screen.

I had a windows phone many years ago, which is why I won't have one again.

Have a look on eBay at swees mobile phones at 70 quid a piece 5" display bit of a bargain

I recently got myself an Umi Zero, excellent phone for only £135, although that was an introductory offer, the price is now a fair bit higher.

If you are not hammering the internet all the time, and turn off BT and WiFi when you arent using it, the battery is good for a week.

Currently got an LG g3 which is great apart from the reception on it isn't amazing inside, hopefully software update of the modem will fix this in the future.

I did have a windows phone prior and whilst it had some good features, I found the app choice not great (though I appreciate it's improving) and the apps that were there weren't great.

Thanks, SWIMBO has an LG G3 and it's on my list

I have a Lumia 920. Picked it up with Tesco on a silly deal where the phone was effectively £83. The phone actually thinks it's on O2.

After the initial shock I've come to really like WinPho 8 and I don't personally consider Android to be as good.

Winph 8 is much much better than the Windows 8 you see on a desktop or even a tablet.

The camera is very good and although the app store is a bit limited it has most of the biggies and Ms makes a lot itself. So I'd certainly not dismiss it without a decent try.

If you like hundreds of apps and games then maybe not.

There are a few Lumia Phablets but winpho makes for better phones than tablets. It does have a half decent version of office on it and 10Gb of free storage on Onedrive.

I'd also trust Ms with my data more than Google or Apple.

IF you need a phone to do serious work on then it might be worth looking at the BB Passport. If you can get over the looks it's a substantial bit of kit. I know a few people using them now for business purposes and they more they have it the more impressed they are but it's not a fanboi fone.

Slightly OT, but I had to say this.

It is astonishing, how much power gets sucked from your phone while trying to get a good phone signal; my old (fake) Lenovo was down to 6-12 hours standby by the the time I got the new Umi Zero, I switched out the SIM, and deleted everything but Toddler games and gave it to my 2 y/o to play with. NOW the battery lasts all week!!!

It's one of the biggest factors in battery life. My Note will go two days use if I stay at or near home, but my job takes me to areas where reception is poor. The combination of moving between transmitters and poor reception in some areas can finish the battery off in 12 hours of light use. SMS messaging seems particularly power hungry on the Note as well.

I have a LG G3 and reception is great so think yours may have a problem. My friend has an HTC M8 and with both phones next to each other mine gets better reception.

Think it is a great phone and after the lollipop update the battery life has become even better (was good to start with) Does everything I want and more.

Tesco is simply a virtual operator running on the O2 network

Have to say, if value for money is a key criteria, the LG G3 represents the best bargain out there at the moment.

That makes sense - I travel a lot, Some days battery does all day, other days it drops like a stone.

So true - my phone (Galaxy S4) normally lasts a full day including use, playing games etc without charging and has some power to spare (20-30%) but if I go to the pub (large steel framed building with zero signal, the phone runs down to about 20% from fully charged in 2-3 hours with minimal use.

Yup, just surpised the phone doesn't seem to pick up the Tesco brand anywhere. Previous phones did.

Lumia was allegedly unlocked out the box and pleasantly free of bloatware. Also free 4G which is ok but I'd suggest nowhere near as good as advertised
