Axle stands, anyone any pictures of where to place them on the Octavia III?

Featured Replies

Hi

Not sure where to place my axle stands and hoping for a picture to help.

Thanks

I imagine the side jacking points? On mine they're rather nondescript, with a 'dent triangle' just above them.

Do you know where the front and rear jacking points are (if there are any these days)?

I have the audi s3 jack pads fitted & use the sills to place the axle stands on when I can be bothered..usually I have two 3ton trolley jacks holding the car up either one side or the whole front or whole rear!........

Hi

Thanks for the quick replies,   I know where the side jacking points are but wasn't sure if they were suitable for the axle stands.  The jack appears to be a perfect fit for the sill and I wasn't too sure how far the re-enforced sections of the sills go.  So wasn't sure if there was enough room to jack (Jack that came with the car) then place the axle stand next to the jack to lower it onto the stand and still be in the re-enforced section of the sill marked for jacking.  Hope that makes sense, I'm not at all technical.

Thanks

But you're still going to put over 20k worth of metal on stilts?

I wouldn't say the side jacking points are suitable for axle stands, no. You'll likely bend the sill.

Jacking points are only of direct use with the Skoda supplied 'scisssor' jack IMO. Because of the U-shaped cup that's fitted.

If you're using a trolley jack and you're jacking from the sills, I'd advise you use a jacking pad to prevent damage: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A3-S3-8V-Tool-Jack-Pad-Adapter-Avoid-Sill-Damage-/251819802180

I'd only generally use an axle stand under a suspension arm, for example. Here's a guide to the points on the Octy2, to give you an idea.

Cheers for posting the picture, I'd seen that one already and that's what made me wonder about the side jack points as the picture appears to show a red and green area on the side jack points. Think I'll get the dealer to show me exactly where I can place the stands. Really just want to use the stand and jack together as a fail safe if I have a wheel off. Wasn't planning on balancing the car on them but take skovirg's point I'll get the experts to lift the car if I'm not sure.

I normally put my axle stands on one of the wishbone mounts depending on the car and the work I'm doing. If I'm just taking a wheel off I leave the car on the jack but with the stand somewhere strong just in case the back fails.

The jack pads are a good idea for using trolley jacks on the sill jacking points although I just have a piece of wood I've run a slot across with my router

I have never bent a sill on my old Fabia (tt jack pads) & I've jacked the new Golf so many times now (aero tray mods & wheel mods)

I do the following.................

Jack using trolley jack under the TT or S3 jack pad...................I use a thick folded wodge of newspaper to act as a cushion between the pad & cup rubber.

I place a big 3ton axle stand under the sill reinforcing point again with a thick folder wodge of newspaper as a cushion.

However on the Golf the two points (jack pad mod & sill point) are very close so I have to jack up from the front to place the rear axle stand & vice versa..........
