mechanical and electrical warranty issues

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has had any experience of a warranty claim being refused due to a item not being classed as mechanical. Had a slight knocking from front of the car, turned out to be a slight fault with the caliper carrier carrier. Warranty refused due to the carrier not being a mechanical part only holds the caliper and moving parts. Moving on vauxhall have offered a good will gesture and will pay 350 towards the replacement leaving me with a bill of 150. Bought the warranty as wanted peace of mind bought the car in October. Apologies for lack of punctuation, post was made on phone.

If the fault was apparent when the car was bought it's the responsibility of the garage to fix it. "Caliper carrier is a critical part of the braking system, not something to take a chance on" is one way to phrase it.

Hmmm, is the engine block a non-mechanical part then? As it just sits there?

Thats what I was confused about, I have sent a letter in just explaining my confusion as to why they are refusing to replace the part under warranty. I understand the reasoning behind such items such as servicing items etc. but the brake carrier?

I take it this is an aftermarket warranty not the factory warranty.

Aftermarket warranties will get out of it if they can.
