DSG Oil change - would this work?

Featured Replies

Oh, That's just the job for filling my gearbox and diff on my other car.

Shame I struggled a little with the manual suction pump (it leaked after the first use) from Machine mart.

I don't see why it wouldn't work well pumping the oil in. I may invest in one, not an expensive item and handy if I ever need to do the job ever again.

Why don't you just fill from the top?

I've never done it before, so wasn't aware of this method. Is that where the filter goes.

I've watched the odd youtube video and they all put it in from the drain plug hole. I assume you measure the oil that come out and put the same volume back in.

Lidl are getting oil pumps in for £12: http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=21108

It looks as if this could work to pump the required oil into the box. I know it can be done using gravity but I'd imagine this would speed the process, a lot.

What are your thoughts?

Now that's a find ! Thanx for that ;)

Yes and yes.

Drain the oil out and measure. It should be at least 4.5 litres that comes out. If it's less then there could be a leak/underfill on previous change.

Then refill through the filter hole (you need the pipe as above to kind of force it in otherwise it will take hours!). Refill with 4.5 litres (or whatever came out) plus 0.1 litre.

Doing this method has actually been found to be more accurate than the bottom fill method. The bottom fill often leads to a slight under-fill of the oil plus wastes some of your precious new oil.

5 litres is required for this method.

Thanks Phil. It isn't due yet, its just had the DSG rebuilt and they used genuine oil and filter for the process. I will do the next one myself though. I'll get one of the pumps to top fill it too, can't go wrong for £12.

It really is an easy job.

The hardest bit is removing the undertray, air filter box, battery and battery box!

Well it hasn't got filter box or an under-tray so thats half of the battle!  :notme:
