Colour Maxidot Speed

Featured Replies

Hello

JUst getting read up on my new Octavia L&K with Columbus MIB and Colour Maxidot that I collect next week. I asked whether the new Columbus was able to give an accurate GPS speed as my current one does not. I was told that you can set the Colour Maxidot to display GPS speed. Is this true and if so how do you do it?

Thanks

Garnett

Displaying the speed in the maxidot is easy. Its just selecting that in the menu.

But I dont know where that display gets the speed from.

It matches the speed on the dash, so I don't think it's GPS supplied.

That said, I've not checked the dash speed against an independent GPS yet so it may be accurate.

My black and white maxi dot displays the speed and I have no sat Nav. It matches speedo so likely to to be car computer speed. The Sat Nav speed read outs are usually a mph or two behind.

Maxidot displays the same as the speedo. It's technically not allowed for a cars factory speedo to display actual/GPS speed as all speed indications have to read a certain percentage under to ensure you are always the safe side of the speed limit.

The EEC directive on type approval states they must never read under the actual speed since its technically not possible to make speedo 100% accurate not even with gps they tend to read over by a percentage , an allowance for how close they must be is listed in the directive

I often find my maxi dot speed to be 1 or 2 mph higher than the old fashioned dial. Cruise always matches the maxi dot and I'm not one for excessive speeds anyway (duh, I drive a Greenline!), but I probably should get that looked at. Anyway to actually answer the question I don't have sat nav so it can't be GPS linked
