ignition barrel

Featured Replies

Hi just been reading the haynes manual and I'm looking to change the ignition barrel on my mk1 vrs now I was wondering do I really need to remove the steering wheel as per Haynes manual to change the ignition barrel? Can I do it without taking the steering wheel off? Your thoughts/experience would be gratefully received.

if it's like an Ibiza both the barrel and the switch parts can be done in situ   bit of a fiddle to release from memory but can be done

Nice one might have a go, just done the boot and door lock my hands are freezing now so I'll leave it for now. My keys were recoded recently after loss so not sure if I'd have to have them done again if I change the ignition barrel?

the parts are switch /housing/lock barrel/immobiliser coil    the immobiliser coil would prob'ly need to be destroyed to remove from the housing,  so unless it's  faulty that bit is best left alone---I do think tho' that the push on terminals (to the coil)  are not that good
