Switch off the interior monitor and towing protection monitoring
– Switch off the ignition.
– Open the driver door.
– Press the button  on the driver door  page 40, fig. 31.
– Lock the vehicle within 30 seconds. The interior monitor and the towing protection
monitoring are switched off.
The interior monitor and the towing protection monitoring are switched on again
automatically the next time the car is locked.
Note
 You can switch the interior monitor and the towing protection monitoring off if
there is a possibility that movements from (e.g. children or animals) inside the
vehicle interior or if the vehicle must be transported (e.g. by train or ship) or towed,
might trigger the alarm.
 You can also switch off the interior monitor and the towing protection monitoring,
by deactivating the safe securing system  page 35.
 When the ignition key is removed or a door is opened, the symbol in the button
lights up red.
 Lighting up of the symbol in the button does not confirm that the interior
monitor and the towing protection monitoring are switched on.

When I do this the red light on the door still flashes and i don't know why there are 2 methods. It's so much easier to press the lock button on the key twice.

The red light will flash, the perimeter alarm is still on so that if the doors are opened/window smashed etc it will sound. I press the button on the door card when I leave the dog in the car, never let me down yet.

Is it possible to turn off the interior monitor and towing protection monitor off permanently ? I really hate these modern cars that reset themselves automatically according to some designer's whim.
