Indicator relay/switch clicking when not being used?

Featured Replies

Ok, so on my way home last night i indicated to move into the inside lane of the motorway. I cancelled the indicator only for there to be a load of rapid clicking from what i can only assume is the hazard/indicator relay/switch as it is coming from the middle of the dash. All the indicators still work but it now randomly clicks loads of times when the indicators aren't in use or whenever you cancel them.

The search function revealed something similar posts, but not the same as this. I'm assuming i'll have to replaced the hazard button and relay as they are all in one, or could this be something else as the indicators still work?

It's a 53 plate vRS.

Thanks.

very common problem , indicator stalk worn . went through a few over the years , if you give it a little spray with wd40 it should keep it going for a few months . ( just a little though and use the red nossle bit ) . part 2 nd hand £10 to £20 ebay / breakers , new around £50 tps .

to replace steering wheel air bag off job , if you aint confident doing this a decent garage should only charge you an hours labour .

As above, but recommend switch cleaner rather than wd40.  That kept mine going for another year before it eventually gave up.

Steering wheel off requires a large torx/special spline bit, and possibly an extra pair of hands.

Yep, used a bit of contact cleaner and it seems to be working ok.

Cheers.
