Blower woes

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever experienced the blower speed increasing when engaging reverse on their fabia vrs? It's like it goes up a setting without even touching the switch ! Weird. Does it everytime without fail. I also noticed last summer that the blower sometimes switches from blowing ice cold air to warm air. I wonder whether the two faults are related . Any ideas anyone ?

It's a feature.  It's going in to recirc mode so the car doesn't take in exhaust fumes as it goes backwards :P

It doesn't get faster... Well, not by design. In reverse, the recirc flap in the heater is engaged to prevent exhaust from entering the cabin. It sounds louder because of the sound bouncing around. Wether it's actually going faster as well <shrug> I dunno.

On the temp question. There's a temp sensor built into the heater control panel. It adjusts incoming temp to hit the cabin temp you set. So unless the left-most button is always all down or all up, it'll fudge about with the flaps to try to hit your desired temp.

Thanks guys, my minds at ease now.

As others have said, when engaging reverse the recirc flap opens to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the cabin. When the recirc flap is open there is less suction needed to draw in air (instead of the blower's intake tubing, the air is now sucked directly in to the motor via the flap), so the blower motor's speed & pitch slightly increases.

Wow.  I've always wondered what was going on there, I had no idea.
