Replacement Exhaust Flexi / CAT

Featured Replies

Morning Guys,

The Flexi piece from manifold to downpipe on my vRS (53 Plate) has a tiny hole.

Just rang Skoda Spares in Bickerton, as they were the cheapest for the Back & Mid Box last year, and they just quoted £950 for the Downpipe & CAT which includes the Flexi piece!

They did suggest to take it to an Exhaust specialist, but a mechanic I know reckons that the welds just break after a couple of weeks.

Does anyone know a better way around the issue, a Cheaper place or even where to get a Good secondhand replacement?

Local scrap yards never seem to have these in either.

Just ordered this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/91032H-AUDI-TT-1-8-20v-Turbo-2WD-Petrol-10-98-12-06-Catalytic-Converter-/181346877876?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a391dc1b4

But phoned them first to make sure its the correct one. Asked if there would knock a little off as they won't be paying eBay fees. Paid £135 which included the Fitting Pack (Sleeves, gasket, etc) and next day delivery (which is £9.99).

but you can buy the flex part separately,is under 15 pounds,go to a shop to cut the old one and weld the new one in

That;s the standard repair procedure

A friend done that on his Audi and said it kept braking. Also the Car is Sound, I replaced the Mid and Back box last year, and just think for the sake of the small amount (in the long run), I then know that I shouldnt have any further issues.

I don't want to replace the Flex, then have to replace the CAT in 6 months

wrong...is like changing the entire wheel for a flat tire.

The problem is the welder,is quite tricky to allign and put to position the flex pipe and not sitting stressed on the car, because will break soon.

I replaced it on my car 3 years ago,my friend wich is chief welding engineer gave me one of his workers, and job done, very well.Costs me like nothing

The factory downpipe is welded to the flex pipe and then to the cat,the procedure is the same, and they use aporx the same TIG welding machines....the welder makes the difference.

Had both sides welded on in my old v6 passat and still going strong 2 years on ☺

you can get a bolt in sleeved version too if you have enough of the existing pipe to slip it onto

Had mine welded 2 years ago with a new flexi section and its been fine. Guess its down to the quality of the welder. I took mine to a well known custom exhaust place in rochdale
